The American Lung Association provides information on asthma, tobacco control, and other lung related diseases.  They provide education as well as updates on medical and legislative issues.

 

American Red Cross of Metro New Jersey

The American Red Cross of Metropolitan New Jersey is the largest and busiest chapter in the state of New Jersey. Disaster calls number approximately 320 a year, with an average of 2,180 people displaced from their homes due to fire. We answer all 320 calls, day or night, to serve those 2,180 people in desperate need.

 

MEDLINEplus (U.S. National Library of Medicine)
This comprehensive consumer health site provides information on specific health topics, drug information, dictionaries, directories, and additional resources.  Includes links to relevant web sites and literature searches from PubMed and suggests related MEDLINEplus topics.  There are alphabetical directories of the site as well as basic and advanced searching.  Some material is available in Spanish.

 

Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report
The MMWR weekly contains data on specific diseases as reported by state health departments and reports on infectious and chronic diseases, environmental hazards, natural or human-generated disasters, occupational diseases and injuries, and intentional and unintentional injuries.

 

National Cancer Institute

The National Cancer Institute has information on clinical trials, research programs along with education information on various cancers.

 

National Institute of Health
The NIH is the world's foremost medical research center with a focal point on medical research in the United States.

New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services
Topics A to Z will take you to information throughout the department, including state and local programs, vital records, health statistics, specific diseases, and much, much more.  It is an easy way to browse through the department's information and services to find what you are looking for, and maybe something you didn't even know about.  There is also an option to search the Web site. 

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection
You can search the DEP InfoFinder or check the current air quality.  There is also information from the Mosquito Control Commission on the West Nile Virus

New Jersey Department of Human Services
Here you will find information from the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired,  the Division of Mental Health Services, the Division of Medical Assistance & Health Services, the Division of Developmental Disabilities, the Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the Division of Youth and Family Services.

The New Jersey Society for Public Health Education (NJ SOPHE)
The New Jersey Society for Public Health Education (NJ SOPHE) is an independent volunteer organization made up of professional health educators and students who work or reside in New Jersey. A public health educator is a professionally trained educator who plans, implements, and evaluates programs promoting healthy behaviors and healthy environments.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) Health Topics A to Z is an excellent guide to resources at the CDC web site.  The site includes special sections on Data & Statistics, Travelers' Health, and Publications, Software, and Other Products.  There is also a Spanish language version available.

FEMA

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is an independent federal agency with more than 2,600 full time employees.  FEMA often works in partnership with other organizations that are part of the nation's emergency management system. These partners include state and local emergency management agencies, 27 federal agencies and American Red Cross.
