About Us

In 2003, by resolution of the Board of Chosen Freeholders, Passaic County Mosquito Control ceased to be a division of County Operations and formally became a division of the Passaic County Department of Health.  This move reflected a growing recognition of Mosquito Control's role in disease prevention, as well as a need to expand and improve our integrated pest management strategies.  Environmental awareness, education, prevention, and professionalism are the principles which guide our control efforts.  All members of Mosquito Control participate in regular training programs to improve not only our effectiveness as a pest control agency but also to gain knowledge in related areas like hazardous materials safety and first aid.  During our active season, staff members perform the vital field work necessary for quick response to larval blooms and residential requests for service.  Whether performing public notification, conducting surveillance, stocking predatory fish, treating 'hot spots,' or following established larviciding routes, the chances are good you'll see one of our crews out working in the summer heat, no matter where you live in Passaic County.  But we don't stand still in the winter either.  After frost ends our active season, our crews become water management teams, clearing blockages from streams, drainage ditches, and catch basins because every waterway cleared now means reduced habitat for mosquitoes the following spring and fewer pesticide applications.  That's why our motto is Never Still or Stagnant.
