GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (G.I.S.)

The Passaic County Department of Health, in cooperation with the County Department of Planning, Engineering and the Office of Emergency Management has established a Geographic Information System (GIS) program. GIS is a sophisticated computer system for mapping environmental, demographic, engineering, land cover and other types of data.

  • GIS allows local officials, planners, engineers, developers and environmentalists to view specific geographic areas within Passaic County and to conduct a visual inventory and assessment of any environmental factors that may effect it.  It is also a useful tool for many other disciplines within county government.

  • The GIS program is also the County’s archive for aerial photography, which is available to the public.  For further information please contact the GIS Specialist at 973-225-3654.
